Fanatec’s Quick Release 2 (QR2)
Fanatec has finally unveiled its latest product: the Quick Release 2 (QR2). After years of development, with over 30 iterations and durability tests involving different shapes and coatings, the QR2 is finally ready for the market. Fanatec pioneered the use of quick releases in sim racing equipment, and maintaining compatibility across multiple generations of wheel bases and steering wheels has always been a key part of the company’s success. Now, it’s time for a new connection, and the QR2 marks a significant milestone in our product lineup.
Why did it take so long?
At first glance, a quick release seems like a simple device. However, motorsport-grade quick releases are usually manufactured in small quantities, and our requirements for mass production are very different. It took a tremendous engineering effort to develop a design that could be made in three different ways: fully CNC-milled from solid aluminum for the Pro version, die-cast aluminum for the regular version, and carbon fiber-reinforced composite for the Lite version. The QR1 has been an essential part of our ecosystem for over a decade, and we didn’t want to rush the transition to QR2 until we were completely satisfied with it.

Why should I upgrade to QR2?
The QR2 has absolutely no play due to its slanted design, avoiding even the slightest gap. This means no more rattling sounds, and more importantly: you’ll feel all the subtle force feedback and FullForce effects. Only with the QR2 can you unlock the full potential of a Direct Drive wheel base.
Additionally, the QR2 represents a major improvement over the QR1 in terms of strength, stability, ease of use, and precision fit. Wheels equipped with the QR2 can be attached to a Fanatec Wheel Base without interacting with the spring-loaded sleeve mechanism, making it quicker and easier to start racing. The new design also ensures a more secure electronic connection for data and power.

Are my existing Fanatec products compatible?
Transitioning to a new QR system is tricky, but we’ve tried everything possible to make it as backwards compatible as possible, allowing you to continue using all the great steering wheels you already have. If your wheel base and steering wheel have an exchangeable quick release, then you have full compatibility. Please check the information page for all the compatibility details.
