An exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Gomez Sim Industries in Dallas

At SimraceblogNL, we’re fortunate to receive amazing products from all over the world to test and share our insights on. We also regularly attend expos to meet with various manufacturers and check out newly launched products. Occasionally, we even get the unique opportunity to go behind the scenes at a company. Given that the Netherlands is home to many sim racing hardware producers, we’ve already visited companies like Simlab, Treq, and Simrep Engineering. This time, however, we received a truly special invitation to travel far outside of Europe to visit none other than Gomez Sim Industries, better known as GSI.

In January of this year, we spoke with the GSI team during Sim Formula Europe in Maastricht. They invited us to take a behind-the-scenes tour of GSI if we ever found ourselves near Dallas, Texas. In October, everything came together, and one of our team members had a free day in Dallas—the perfect chance to visit.

From the hotel near Dallas airport, it was just a ten-minute drive before we arrived at a sleek building with reflective windows and a prominent GSI logo. We were warmly greeted by Jose himself, his wife Danielle, and their two loyal dogs.

After the warm welcome, we began a tour of GSI’s headquarters. We started in the production area, where neatly organized shelves were filled with parts for building steering wheels. Along the edges of the warehouse, workbenches were set up where staff assemble the various steering wheels in the GSI lineup. Depending on the type, the team can produce anywhere from 25 to over 100 steering wheels per day. At the back, Jose’s desk stands out, recognizable by the many prototype parts scattered around. Despite his marketing background, Jose has fully integrated his passion for racing into his work. He personally designs each steering wheel down to the details and makes improvements as needed. While we can’t reveal what he’s currently working on, we can say there’s something exciting coming to the GSI lineup in 2025.

There’s more to producing steering wheels than just assembly, so we headed to the second part of the building: a spacious office where all the company’s supporting processes take place. Here, there’s a dedicated photo room for product images, along with desks for handling logistics and shipping. They also have two fully-equipped simulators for testing purposes. This side of the building is decorated with fun wall art: one wall displays large outlines of their steering wheels, while another features a unique piece with a story behind it. Due to a production error, GSI discovered that one of their early wheel spacer designs didn’t pass quality control. With a large stock of unusable spacers, they decided to get creative and made a special piece of artwork as a keepsake.

After the tour, it was time to head to the airport and fly home. We want to thank GSI for their hospitality and the chance to go behind the scenes in Dallas. We’re looking forward to seeing them again at Sim Formula Europe 2025 and to finding out what they have in store for the future. Soon, we’ll be reviewing two steering wheels from their existing lineup and sharing some exciting content with you!
