SimRep Engineering DDUXX1 Sim Dashboard

SimRep Engineering, founded by passionate car enthusiasts Niels and Atilla, is an innovative company focused on developing advanced sim racing products. Since meeting two years ago, they’ve built a strong partnership, combining their passion for technology and sustainability in their designs. At SimRep Engineering, sustainability is a priority: each product is designed for longevity, with modular, easily replaceable, and fully repairable components. This approach means customers benefit from a durable product that they can maintain themselves without relying on third parties or new purchases—a step toward a more circular future in the sim racing industry.

Thanks to our close involvement in developing the SimRep Engineering P9XX Steering Wheel, we have an excellent relationship with SimRep. Recently, the SimRep Engineering DDUXX1 Sim Dashboard was launched, and we were invited to review it—an opportunity we couldn’t pass up!

The SimRep Engineering DDUXX1 Sim Dashboard is available through SimRep’s online store for €299.00, including VAT but excluding shipping. This dashboard is a great addition to any sim racing setup, and we’re looking forward to thoroughly testing its features and performance.

Packaging and Contents

We receive a brown shipping box from PostNL, sent within a business day from SimRep Engineering in The Hague, the Netherlands. When we open the box, we find a smaller brown product box with the SimRep Engineering logo on it. It’s a fairly simple package, but that’s fine—it’s the contents that matter.

Opening the product box reveals a layer of black foam for protection. Lifting the first layer, we find the DDUXX1 Sim Dashboard nestled securely in a foam cutout in the second layer. Underneath this is another layer of black foam, where a USB cable, a Mini-HDMI to HDMI cable, a bag with the necessary screws, and a bag with carbon mounting brackets are stored. All in all, it’s a complete package that allows us to get started right away.

The SimRep Engineering DDUXX1 Sim Dashboard

The SimRep Engineering DDUXX1 Sim Dashboard is a premium sim dash that enhances any sim setup. The dashboard features a sturdy black anodized aluminum housing and a scratch-resistant glass front plate, providing both durability and a sleek look. Its 8.8-inch ultrawide screen boasts a high resolution of 1920×480 pixels, delivering sharp visuals with deep blacks and no dark spots, ensuring that all details are clearly visible.

The DDUXX1 is designed exclusively for PC use, powered by a micro-USB connector and connected through an HDMI port. For added flexibility, it includes universal carbon mounting brackets that can be attached with two bolts and fit well on popular wheelbases like Fanatec and Simucube. This dashboard is compatible with software like SimHub, allowing you to fully customize the display and use various dashboard templates.

Assembly

We start by attaching the included carbon mounting brackets to the back of the screen, using the supplied bolts and nylon washers. First, we place a washer on each bolt, thread it through the mounting bracket(s), and add another washer before fastening it to the back of the display. Once the mounting brackets are secured to the display, we mount the setup onto our Simucube wheelbase. Next, we connect the USB and HDMI cables to the display and link them to our PC. With the cables neatly tucked away, we’re ready to configure the DDUXX1 in SimHub.

Software

Once connected to the PC, the DDUXX1 Sim Dashboard is recognized by Windows as an additional display. We configure the DDUXX1 in SimHub, which we’ve already installed. By downloading and importing the ‘standard device file‘ through the ‘Devices’ menu, we can easily add the DDUXX1 to SimHub. This configuration file includes specific settings for the DDUXX1, like resolution, screen layout, and connection protocols, allowing SimHub to recognize and control the device accurately. In a future SimHub update, the DDUXX1 will be added by default, eliminating the need to import the file and making setup as easy as a few clicks.

Now, we just need to download a dashboard template. SimRep Engineering offers their own version on their website, and Lovely Sim-Racing also creates dashboards for SimRep Engineering. You can download their version here. We choose the Lovely variant, which has a sleeker look and offers extra functionality. After downloading, we import the dashboard template into SimHub and set it as the ‘main dashboard.’ The downloaded dashboard template now appears on the DDUXX1, which is fully ready for use.

Usage

We’re taking the Mercedes AMG GT in Assetto Corsa Competizione for a spin, paired with the Cube Controls Mercedes-AMG GT Edition steering wheel (review coming soon). This setup is, in our opinion, ideal for thoroughly testing the DDUXX1 dashboard display. Our first impression is immediately positive. The DDUXX1’s unique 8.8-inch screen (1920×480 pixels) offers an unusual aspect ratio, which lets us position it right within our field of view—perfectly fitting the virtual cockpit of the Mercedes AMG GT without being distracting. We were initially worried that the DDUXX1 might sit too low, but in practice, it’s both conveniently placed and easy to read, especially when paired with a robust wheel like the Cube Controls Mercedes-AMG GT Edition.

The Lovely dashboard template provides all essential data at a glance, eliminating the need to create a custom layout or search for templates online. While minor personalizations are possible, we make no significant changes to the dashboards.

The screen quality is particularly impressive: the image is crisp, with vibrant color representation. With a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz, the display reacts smoothly and quickly. To fully utilize this 60Hz refresh rate with telemetry data, however, a SimHub license is required, as the free version caps data output to the screen at 10Hz. The fact that the screen is powered through USB is also very convenient; as soon as we shut down the PC, the screen automatically powers off as well.

At first, we thought SimRep Engineering had simply released “another dashboard,” but thanks to its narrow, elongated form factor, the DDUXX1 proves to be refreshingly effective.

Conclusion

The SimRep Engineering DDUXX1 Sim Dashboard pleasantly surprised us during this review. This isn’t just another dashboard on the market; its slim, elongated shape makes it stand out and adds unique value in the sim racing world. The distinctive form factor and aspect ratio provide a refreshing alternative, making it a standout addition to the market. The narrow, widescreen design not only offers a unique visual experience but also fits easily into almost any cockpit setup without taking up too much space.

Installing the DDUXX1 is straightforward and user-friendly. With the included mounting brackets, the display attaches smoothly to our setup, and the connections are easy to manage. Setting it up in SimHub is equally simple: the Lovely Sim-Racing dashboard template gives us a sleek design and plenty of useful features, making the dashboard functional right out of the box.

In our tests with Assetto Corsa Competizione, the Mercedes AMG GT, and the Cube Controls Mercedes-AMG GT Edition steering wheel, the DDUXX1 really enhanced the racing experience. The 8.8-inch display (1920×480 pixels) fits perfectly in our field of view without being distracting, and the Lovely dashboard template instantly provides all necessary information, saving us the hassle of designing a dashboard ourselves.

The DDUXX1’s screen performs exceptionally well: the image quality is sharp, colors are vibrant, and the screen is smooth with a 60Hz refresh rate—a feature accessible with a SimHub license. The free version of SimHub, however, limits the refresh rate to 10Hz. Another convenient feature is that the screen is powered through USB, so it automatically shuts off when the PC is turned off.
