We already had them on the F1 2020 Limited Edition wheel, but now the ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module is also available as a standalone upgrade for a number of different Fanatec steering wheels. The MPM, as the abbreviation goes, is a stripped-down version of the existing Advanced Paddle Module. This means they are almost the same modules but without the double-clutch and the extra top paddles.
The design is the same as the version on the F1 2020 Limited Edition, but in standard woven carbon. This matches nicely with the “standard” steering wheels from the Fanatec range. What is striking is that Fanatec has now made the paddles with 3mm thick Carbon. On the APM these are 2mm thick and are often seen as a weak point.
The ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module uses the same connection as the Podium Advanced Paddle Module. They are only compatible with the ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2, ClubSport Steering Wheel F1 20xx, ClubSport Steering Wheel F1® PS4 ™ (blue version), ClubSport Steering Wheel Universal Hub for Xbox One and the Podium Hub.
Is it worth the upgrade? We think so! We were not really a fan of the standard shifters that Fanatec supplies. Actually, we just think it’s really bad. The Magnetic Paddle Module has relatively little travel and has a strong magnetic resistance and “click”, which gives a solid, positive feel to every shift. The Advanced Podium Module was already a huge improvement, but if you don’t need those extra paddles and the double-clutch then you really buy a perfect set of shifters with the MPM.
